When the steam is returned to the line, a slug of water will be pushed through the piping, resulting in large axial loads at each elbow. Effects of transient vibrations are usually obvious; large pipe deections usually occur that damage the support system and insulation as well as cause possible yielding of the piping. Of course, damage can also be sustained by the associated equipment, valve operators, drain lines, and so forth. An example illustrating the striking nature of dynamic transients occurred in a fossil fuel plant cold-reheat line. There, the low-point drains had not been properly maintained, and water accumulated in the line after a turbine trip. When the turbine-stop valves were opened, a water slug was forced through the piping, resulting in a transient so severe that the 80 ft. When the piping came down, most of the hangers 2 were broken, and the piping had large deformations.
In this paper, implementation of soft sensing technique for measurement of fluid flow rate is reported. The objective of the paper is to design an estimator to physically measure the flow in pipe by analysing the vibration on the walls of the pipe. Commonly used head type flow meter causes obstruction to the flow and measurement would depend on the placement of these sensors. In the proposed technique vibration sensor is bonded on the pipe of liquid flow. It is observed that vibration in the pipe varies with the control action of stem. Single axis accelerometer is used to acquire vibration signal from pipe, signal is passed from the sensor to the system for processing.
Vibrations due to mechanical excitation and internal and external fluid flow can cause fatigue in pipelines and leaks in fittings. A beam-based dynamic vibration absorber beam DVA is a device comprising an L-shaped beam with a concentrated mass at its free end that can be used to absorb and dissipate vibrations in the pipeline. In this paper, a mathematical equation is extracted to design the beam DVA using the dimensional analysis DA method and data recorded from experimental tests. In the experimental studies, the pipes are fabricated in 1-inch, 2-inch, and 3-inch sizes. Each pipe is subjected to harmonic excitation at different frequencies, and the amplitude of vibration of the pipe is evaluated by changes in the geometric characteristics of beam DVA and concentrated mass. The results showed that, out of the nine effective dimensionless parameters identified in pipe vibration control, mass ratio and stiffness ratio have the highest and lowest impacts on pipe vibration absorption, respectively. Pipeline structures are used in oil and gas industries, petroleum industries, power plants, and chemical factories.

Piping Vibration Analysis and monitoring is important to the success and efficiency of any piping system. Excessive vibration can lead to some practical problems. Flanges may start leaking.
Ridens, Brandon L. This paper explores new analysis techniques and mitigation concepts developed to extend the current state of the art acoustic induced vibrations AIV analyses. These new methods are intended to provide more accurate evaluations of this phenomenon in an attempt to solve AIV problems found in blowdown and piping systems.
Olson, DE. Rao, KR. ASME Press, In Chapter 37, David E. Olson provides a detailed discussion on pipe vibration, testing, and analysis with the aid of tables, figures, and references. David notes that for piping design and monitoring, vibration is typically divided into two types: steady-state and dynamic-transient. Each type has its own potential causes and effects, necessitating individualized treatment for prediction, analysis, control, and monitoring.
