Traffic congestion is a condition in transport that is characterised by slower speeds, longer trip times, and increased vehicular queueing. Traffic congestion on urban road networks has increased substantially, since the s. While congestion is a possibility for any mode of transportation , this article will focus on automobile congestion on public roads. As demand approaches the capacity of a road or of the intersections along the road , extreme traffic congestion sets in.
Traffic congestion is a worldwide issue, especially in developing countries. This is also the case of Afghanistan, especially in Kabul-the capital city, whose rapid population growth makes it the fifth fastest growing city in the world. Traffic congestion affects not only the mobility of people and goods but also the air quality that leads to numerous deaths people every year. There are many factors that contribute to traffic congestion. The insufficiency and inefficiency of public transportation system along with the increase of private vehicles can be considered among the most important contributing factors. This paper addresses the traffic congestion and attempts to suggest possible solutions that can help improve the current public transportation system in Kabul.

While congestion is a possibility for any mode of transportation , this article will focus on automobile congestion on public roads. As demand approaches the capacity of a road or of the intersections along the road , extreme traffic congestion sets in. When vehicles are fully stopped for periods of time, this is known as a traffic jam or informally a traffic snarl-up. Mathematically, traffic is modeled as a flow through a fixed point on the route, analogously to fluid dynamics.
Institutional problems have been identified as being the most serious obstacles to implementing programs to reduce traffic congestion, reduce air pollution, and conserve energy. This report, therefore, will be of special interest to transportation professionals and administrators, at all levels of government, who are attempting to implement programs to meet these goals. Institutional barriers to cooperative programs for implementing complex packages of congestion-reducing techniques are identified. Incentives and penalties are suggested to obtain essential participation of existing institutions. Peak-period traffic congestion continues to be a widespread urban transportation problem despite the availability of technologically feasible solutions. Research reported in NCHRP Report revealed that the most effective congestion-reducing C-R programs were those combining several of these techniques into coordinated implementation packages.
Bike sharing system as mode of public transport is very popular in the world. This smart solution can be described as answer to an increasingly frequent traffic congestion and parking problems in many cities all around the world. This issue is beginning to relate to some cities in Slovakia as well. Bicycles address traffic congestion as they form a valid substitution for cars on short trips, contribute to the use of public transport by providing effective last-mile connectivity and simply take up less space on the road. As the system of shared bicycles works from , it is relatively new in Slovakia. This is a reason why this system still has some problems and deficiencies that need to be optimized.
We present here some ideas for reducing congestion and pollution in urban areas, applicable in the UK and worldwide. The ideas were developed in the context of the Greater Cambridge area roughly Cambridge city and South Cambridgeshire district , which is typical of many UK towns and cities. The region has an urban population under ,, surrounded by a dispersed rural population.
With the rapid development of society, urban traffic congestion has gradually become an important social problem that many cities need to solve. Aiming at the problem of urban traffic congestion and automobile exhaust pollution, this paper adopts the system dynamics method to establish a model for studying urban traffic congestion system from the perspectives of private cars, trucks, and public transportation. First, we determine city motor vehicle trips as an indicator of the degree of traffic congestion in this paper. Second, we analyze the causal relationship between the growth of private cars, the travel of trucks, public transportation, population, and other factors and then build a model and test the stability of the model.
Pages: Abstract Traffic congestion, a severe problem in many developing countries, has become a universal phenomenon. For more than 25 years, almost since the end of hostilities in Lebanon, the transportation sector has been facing numerous problems due mainly to bad road infrastructure, an increasing number of vehicles and a quasi-absent public transportation system. Local and foreign transportation researchers and experts have suggested a number of solutions over the years to alleviate traffic congestion problems in Lebanon, such as variable operating schedules, constructing bridges and interchanges, implementing boat taxis, adopting public transport like BRT Bus Rapid Transit , restoring the railway tracks, etc.

The ideas were developed in the context of the Greater Cambridge area roughly Cambridge city and South Cambridgeshire district , which is typical of many UK towns and cities. The region has an urban population under ,, surrounded by a dispersed rural population. Congestion-reduction measures can be thought of as falling into two categories: temporary and virtuous. Temporary measures free up road capacity that is soon filled by induced demand: people adapt their lifestyles to prevailing road conditions. Such measures are therefore worth pursuing only if they either buy time or lay the foundations for more radical interventions. We take a quick look at measures in this category that should not be considered as solutions — at least not in isolation.
Ты ничего не можешь с этим поделать, Дэвид. Не лезь не в свое. - Ну. Беккер кивнул. Уже в дверях он грустно улыбнулся: - Вы все же поосторожнее.
Traffic congestion has been increasing in much of the world, developed or not more efficient solutions than the application of isolated measures to combat.
